TOST Day 10

Tost day 10

Day 10 was a less eventful day. Chris and I went shopping in the Datong district.

Saturday 9/23
Dolly Club
Wang Teashop
Wang Tealab

We headed out fairly early in the morning and found a small place near our hotel that sold really good pork sticky rice dumplings.

We took the train to Datong and explored the area for a while. Since it was still so hot, we had to take a break at a cute book store that surprisingly served iced tea.

I was in desperate need of a new purse so we stopped at Dolly Club. They sell all sorts of bags with super cute designs. Afterwards, we spent the rest of the day walking around market areas and looking a small shops.

That evening we went to Wang De Chuan for some teaware. Next door was their Tea Lab where tried tea cocktails/mocktails, sparkling tea, nitro tea, tea beer, and tea themed pastries. They also served “Leavespressos”, “Teaffogatos” and “Pourovers” (like coffee) but we didn’t have time to try them before closing time. The teas we did try were:
Chi Chong Oolong Beer (5% abv)
Refreshing Moment (CO2, Biluochun, Wenshan Bao Zhong, Osmanthus Oolong, and Qizhong Bao Zhong)
Pineapple Head (Co2, Biluochun and Ruby 18)
Cotton Candy without Sugar (N2, Qizhong Bao Zhong, Jasmine Tea, and High Mountain Oolong)
Really Fragrant and Sweet (N2, Honey Fragrance Black Tea and Jinfei Oolong)
Silky Watermelon (N2, Osmanthus Oolong, Biluochun, Wenshan Bao Zhong, Jinfei Oolong and Watermelon extract)
Golden Bao Zhong Milk Tea with Bailey’s (Lab Shot x Alcohol)
Jasmine Milk Tea with Bailey’s (Lab shot x Alcohol)

The pastries were:
Bao Zhong Pound Cake (almond, Bao Zhong, mango, and lemon)
Golden Bao Zhong Financier (hazelnut, almond, and Golden Bao Zhong)
Tieguanyin Rose Pound Cake (egg, almond, milk, lychee, raspberry, rose, Tieguanyin, and agar).

We ended the night walking around a few night markets and dinner at SOGO.

It was interesting and creative to see Wangtea Lab taking coffee shop and tap house concepts and applying them so well to tea. I would love to see more places like this, and think they would be popular in the US.
